By definition a mentor is a trusted counselor or guide, but to me this quote by Bob Proctor describes a mentor better.

“A mentor is someone who sees more talent and ability within you, than you see in yourself, and helps bring it out of you.”

I am thankful for my mentors that have helped me realize my future goals and helped create my fundamental values. I am so appreciative of the people who have shared their wisdom with me, my life mentors have truly changed my life for the better. So many people have mentored me in life and I want to thank some of these mentors.

One of my biggest role models in life is my father, he has taught me everything I know. My father is special to me because he leads by example, he always reminds me I can do more. I remember a specific time, in the middle of Oklahoma summer, we were building fences all day. After about 10 hours of work I was ready to quit, my body was sore and I was hungry, but we were only halfway done. I immediately fell asleep on the couch, but when I woke up the next morning the fence was finished, my Dad finished the fence over night.

My BPA advisor, Mr. Walls has helped me realize my future goals and helped push me to achieve everything I’ve dreamt to accomplish. He showed me that I can accomplish anything if I put my mind to it. He always reaches out with a helping hand to anyone who needs it. I remember a specific time when my car broke down far from home, I called Mr. Walls for help and he dropped everything and was there in under five minutes to help fix my car. Mr. Walls is an exceptional mentor.

My Grandmother, we call her Momma Gail, is the most supportive mentor in my life. Momma Gail is always the first person to congratulate people on their achievements and support their future. She is always there if you need someone to talk to and she enjoys helping others.

As I reflect on my life, I start to fathom the positive impact my mentors have had on me. I am thankful for everyone who has shared their wisdom with me and supported my journey thus far. This November think about your mentors and how they have changed your life.
